As planned, the airport shuttle left on Saturday at 16:00 and, oh wonder, arrived in Munich much too early, so I had 2 more hours to kill until boarding.
Finally, when I could make my way to the gate, I was called. First shock: I hope I didn't get the time wrong! So now quickly through passport control and to the boarding gate.
From a distance, I could already see the line in front of my gate - so it's the right time after all. Then a Lufthansa employee informed me that the planned plane is not ready for service and the new one has 16 fewer seats, so they are looking for people to distribute to other planes.
It wouldn't have been a problem for me if I hadn't already booked a hotel in Beijing.
The solution of a direct flight to Hong Kong three hours later and compensation of €600 convinced me. After some back and forth, I can even take the connecting flight from Hong Kong to Auckland tomorrow as originally planned and save myself a 4-hour flight from Beijing here.
So, Hong Kong instead of Beijing, also nice!
I immediately booked a hotel (directly at the airport, and the 5* hotels don't matter during Ultra-Last-Minute, perfect) and I think I know the whole Munich airport by foot.
After an uneventful flight, I arrived at the hotel and enquired about how to get to the city and just started driving without further information.
After the spontaneous decision to get off one station before the main station, I stumbled upon an exit with the sign Sky100 while searching for a way out of the station-mall labyrinth. 'The view from 100 meters on the city must be quite good', so I went up. When I reached the top, I realized that I was on the 100th floor of the 12th tallest building in the world!
Sometimes spontaneous is the best...
At 20:00 there was a spectacular light show from the skyscrapers on the main island.
I don't think this was my last visit to Hong Kong ;-)
So, now I'm exhausted from all the surprises and looking forward to the comfortable hotel bed...
See you soon.
