Day 8 | 05.09.2018 Thayne - West Yellowstone

প্ৰকাশিত: 07.09.2018

The Rustic Inn was really nice, we even had 2 rooms with three beds. In the evening, I could watch the US Open where Nadal defeated Dominic Thiem in five sets.

Then we started our National Park tour. A positive surprise was the Teton National Park, which was worth the $35 admission fee. The Rockies rose up to an impressive 4,000 meters in the west, and there was even snow on the peaks. A fantastic sight. The perfect panorama was completed by a herd of wild horses... and from the same spot, we could see buffalos (bisons) on the other side. Pure wildlife. Breathtaking.

Seamlessly, the Teton merges into the Yellowstone National Park.

Once again, $35 per car, but we should not regret it. It is probably the beauty of nearly untouched nature. Lakes, forests, and rivers. And on top of that, unique geysers, of which there are over 300 in the whole park. Because one must not forget, all of this is located directly on the largest volcano on Earth. Somehow very unreal, and yet magnificent. We made frequent photo stops and visited the geysers, which were also accessible for wheelchairs. One highlight was definitely the Old Faithful.

There is even a Visitor Center and a hotel right there. The exciting thing is that it is probably one of the largest geysers in the world. The boiling water emerges from the ground every approximately 90 minutes. Plus or minus 10 minutes, although I find it astonishing that it can be predicted at all. The area is equipped with benches, so that all tourists have the perfect view. The Americans certainly know how to stage things best in the whole world. We even witnessed two eruptions and treated ourselves to some delicious ice cream in between.

The Prismatic Geyser a few miles further was also impressive. Not as tall, but you can get very close and feel like you're in the midst of a boiling pot. In addition, there were so many colors here due to the deposits of minerals over centuries. Fantastic.

Did I mention that we still have great weather luck? It's always around 30 degrees Celsius during the day and sometimes cools down to 0 degrees at night. But that doesn't bother us.

Of course, we were also hoping to see bears in Yellowstone. After all, we have never seen one in the wild before. But it didn't work out today. However, we saw a bison by the roadside.

As we drove out of the park towards West Yellowstone to check into our accommodation, we experienced our first traffic jam in the USA. But the reason behind it was beautiful. A few moose had made themselves comfortable right by the road and were undisturbed by the photo frenzy.

Another amazing experience. Then another day was over and we're already one week into our trip, but we've already had experiences that will last for years.

Good night from home.
