Valdivia 🍺

Here in the south of Chile, German influences can be found everywhere, but not only that, you can also admire Spanish fortifications in Valdivia.

First, we went to the daily fish market, right on the promenade. Here, with a freshly roasted skewer full of delicacies in hand, you can watch the vendors while they butcher the fish. And where does the grunting come from?

Oh, sea lions! After we had been trying for hours in Puerto Madryn to observe sea lions, we did not expect these majestic animals to offer themselves as scavengers here. Sometimes only 1m away from the vendors, they patiently wait for everything that falls. However, they don't want to share, neither with pelicans, nor with younger counterparts or even dogs.

Coincidentally, this weekend was the Beer Festival, which is not mentioned in any travel guide, Valdivia is the beer capital of the country. And since it is not mentioned in any travel guide, we were the only tourists and were somewhat suspiciously eyed when we tried to communicate in English. Similar to a street food market, but with live music, we could enjoy local beers and freshly fried empanadas.

Tonight we are heading to the Colchagua Valley, one of the largest wine regions in Chile. 🍷

Best regards
