The Alps once again impress us with spectacular scenery, radiant sunshine, countless places to sleep peacefully, and incredible, spectacular starry skies on such clear nights that the crescent moon shines as bright as the full moon back home at best.
Nearly everywhere, you can spend the night and enjoy unbelievable and breathtaking nature.
In the French Alps, you can let the camper be a camper, which we did not experience so casually in Austria and Italy. However, even with the rear-wheel drive heating, we always stay below 2000m, not just because of the slightly more pleasant temperatures, but also because the air is not quite so thin lower down.
When it whistles around you in the highest tones, you are initially surprised by the strange bird and consult the recognition app, which has no idea. If you look around more carefully, you will discover the whistling hare, who lives up to his name.
The alpine marmot lives above the treeline in burrows, and at least one of them must stand watch while the others feed themselves a nice layer of fat for the long and harsh winter, which they then sleep through very comfortably.
The sentinels whistle when there is danger, not only from the huge birds of prey in the sky but also from you while looking for a place to sleep, a hiking trail, or even the alpine lake.
However, we cannot find the lake because we are going in the wrong direction, which we only realize after 2.5 km and an ascent of 300 meters to an altitude of 2800m while looking down on it. As we do, we get to see the adorable marmots, who seem to pay less attention to us than to the lammergeier soaring above our heads.
And it looks really funny when they greet each other by rubbing their noses together and then disappear into their burrow with their round bottoms.
