On the path of the golden drops of the treasure of Krk

Today I went on a walking tour again: hiking in Krk. The island offers abundant opportunities and I got the corresponding maps from the Tourist Office yesterday 😊. I also downloaded the related apps.

I chose an olive learning path. Krk is proud of its tradition of producing high-quality olive oil. Lately, great efforts have been made to revive this tradition.

Just outside Krk, the tour begins. Ten panels provide interesting background information about the olive. And from panel to panel, a well-marked, ten-kilometer long path leads through vast olive groves. The individual plots are delimited by dry stone walls, locally called Gromača. They were created to reclaim land from the barren landscape and to carry out sheep farming.

I enjoy the quiet, solitary hiking. Occasionally a small flock of sheep, beguiling scents of honeysuckle and rosemary, this is the life. In addition to olives, elderberries, figs, and pomegranates thrive here. The olives are then processed into oil in the city of Krk. Maybe this week I will have the opportunity to visit an oil mill.

Now that I have walked a small part of the island, I want more. Hopefully tomorrow the weather will be good for biking and further discoveries.
