Mythology and Warriors in Iron Lion Park

Wɔatintim: 14.08.2024

I have already mentioned a mythological figure from Chinese history related to Cangzhou with Lin Chong. However, there are several other characters commemorated on the grounds of Iron Lion Park in Cangxian.
Mu Guiying was a famous female general during the Song Dynasty and one of the great heroines of ancient China. While she was in her last trimester of pregnancy, she led her troops into battle against the intruders from the northern Liao state. Even after giving birth to her baby on the battlefield, she continued to fight, ignoring her weakened physical state. The war, of course, was won, as befits a heroic tale.
Luo Cheng was a fighting hero during the Tang Dynasty. Despite sustaining severe injuries and having his horse stuck in the mud of a river, he continued to fight in the battle for Cangzhou. Using a spear for support, he managed to reach the embankment.
Additionally, there is a story from the Qing Dynasty about the small village of Beiguan, located precisely at Iron Lion Park in Cangxian. There was an inn where a guest with a white horse dismounted and brought with him large amounts of gold and silver. The greedy innkeepers secretly killed the guest and transported the corpse on the horse's back to another location to cover up the crime, where they buried it. They then tried to drive the horse away. However, the horse would not leave, blocking the road when a government official passed by. This behavior of the horse drew attention, and the official followed it to its owner's grave, revealing the crime. The innkeepers, Pang Guixing and his wife, were subsequently identified as the culprits and punished. The moral of the story is, of course, to highlight that crime does not pay and will eventually come to light.
