Mi día de los muertos

Happy Halloween! Na habt ihr euch verkleidet, Süßigkeiten gesammelt und Kürbisse geschnitzt? Ich für meinen Teil male mich ja super gerne als Skelett an und gehe ein bisschen aus, um den Tag zu genießen. Das ist aber hier nur was für die ganz kleinen Kinder, die von Haus zu Haus ziehen und weil es Kürbisse das gesamte Jahr über gibt, stehen die hier auch nicht vor der Tür. Dafür hat aber der Donutladen nebenan, vier neue wunderschön dekorierte Gebäckstücke im Angebot.

In Chile sind der 31. Oktober und 1. November Feiertage, denn man bereitet das Grab der Angehörigen auf und gedenkt Ihnen. Das ist viel, viel farbenfroher als in Deutschland, da es ja gerade Frühling wird und der Friedhof war voller Menschenmengen. Ich habe den Tag genutzt, um mit Matias ein bisschen wandern zu gehen. Das kuriose war, dass dieser Trail, den ich auf einer Karte fand, wohl gar nicht so bekannt ist. Wir sind also auf ein Privatgrundstück und durften als „Freunde des Waldes“ den Pfad besuchen. Die Katze und der Hund des Besitzers begleiteten uns die gesamte Wegstrecke.

The path wasn't sooo well signposted and we had to turn back 3 times, thought we found the right trail 3 times and found out: still nice when you get a little lost. In the greatest need, the dog would surely have shown us the way.

It was good to get out again, away from the protests that are still happening every day. On some days, the anger of individuals boils up again and things get demolished, but on the whole, the people unite peacefully. Many Chileans believe that the situation here will continue like this for at least two more months.

The evening was very spontaneous, but still cozy. After we had everything together, Matias showed us how to prepare and eat fresh artichokes. (You tear the leaves out individually and basically only eat the stem. Actually a shame that you have to throw away 2/3 of the plant, but the rest tastes really heavenly with lemon juice and salt).

I insisted on a good German pumpkin soup, because it's Halloween. Sopaipillas rounded everything off. This is fried bread, which is typically served as a snack here. In the northern part of the country, the dough even contains pumpkin puree. But we left that out because pumpkin with pumpkin is kind of weird...

And finally a game of Settlers of Catan, man I love this game.
