Unfortunately, the offer from Ian and Lucy to go surfing with them in the morning slips away from us at the moment they leave and we are still fast asleep. We buy eggs and toast at the nearby supermarket and vegetables at a nearby local market. We make breakfast, welcome Lucy and Ian, and talk with them for a while about the city, the island, and recommendations.
Afterwards, we head to the beach and are once again shocked by the masses of tourists. The beach is not suitable for swimming either, as the entire section is reserved for surfers and closed to regular swimmers. Aside from that, the surf is incredibly strong, making a dip in the cool water out of the question. Somewhat frustrated, we decide to take a walk through the city, which unfortunately offers little more than expensive restaurants, cheap clothes, and pushy taxi drivers.
A little later, we meet Lucy and Ian at our accommodation again and they ask us if we want to go to a beach bar with them to watch the sunset. We want to have a nice ending to the day, so we gladly agree. They kindly lend us their scooter and the four of us set off. The ride is more than spectacular and can hardly be compared to riding a scooter in Thailand or Cambodia. Ian picks up speed and zooms through narrow gaps, sidewalks, and oncoming traffic in the small jams. I do my best to keep up and tense up so much that when we arrive at the beach bar, I'm completely exhausted. But the efforts of the hectic journey are already worth it the moment we get our first glimpse of the water. Electronic music is playing from a DJ, the atmosphere is a perfect mix of good vibes and relaxation, and we also like the mix of locals and tourists. We greet some friends of Lucy and Ian, sit on comfortable sandbags, and order drinks. The sun sets and the atmosphere is pretty much perfect.
After the sun sets, we begin our journey back. The return trip is just as exciting as the journey there, but we arrive home safely, thank the two of them for the great outing, and then go to bed.
