December 18th, 2023 Bonaire welcomed us with a heavy rain. I didn't let myself be deterred and started hiking. For this I was rewarded with a rainbow. I encountered small crabs that can run surprisingly fast and spotted a bright red submarine among the tour boats. I would have liked to go there. But the operators have a rest day on Monday of all days. A pity.
After I had looked around the capital Kralendijk and the rain had given way to bright sunshine, I headed to the beach. I shared a taxi with other fellow travelers that took us to the other side of the island within 30 minutes. The beach club there has everything you need for life: a wonderful fine sandy beach, shady seating, drinks, internet and toilets. After three hours the taxi driver picked us up again as agreed. On the way back there was another highlight waiting for us: free-living flamingos!
Back on the ship I did my first day of washing. We have washing machines and dryers at our disposal. However, I used the ship's own laundry service for my shirts. Let's see what the result is.
So far, I have successfully avoided getting sunburned. I'm trying to keep it that way.
