The following days at Josiane and Guy's, we mostly cleared the garden of weeds. We spent 2 days at a friend of theirs re-roofing a house. The friend doesn't speak a word of English or German, so I had to communicate with him in pretty bad French. It was a lot of fun and we managed to understand each other despite the language barrier.
I really enjoyed my time there because I learned a lot of French. However, it wasn't so nice to sleep in an uninsulated camper at 2°C. The cold nights took a toll on me.
After spending weeks there, I treated myself to a weekend in Bordeaux. I had read before that the old town there is very well-preserved, but I didn't expect such a beautiful city. A well-preserved, large old town that looks typically French to me. If anyone has the opportunity to visit Bordeaux, they shouldn't hesitate.
After my weekend in Bordeaux, I was supposed to go to a new host near Carcassonne. However, no one replied to my emails until the day of arrival. Even after a few attempts to call, no one answered. So I spontaneously decided to drive to Carcassonne on Sunday.
I think everyone has heard of Carcassonne before, either through the game (which is not as popular in France as it is in Germany) or simply because it is one of the few very well-preserved fortified cities in Europe. It's simply amazing to be able to stand in such a place and see how people used to live. And since I'm under 25 years old, I even got free admission to the local museum, where you can walk along the inner city wall. Very cool.
