Heeeey guys!
Today we saw a lot of Berlin. We probably only saw about one percent, but it was enough to get a rough idea :).
In our opinion, Berlin is a very worth seeing, beautiful city, but unfortunately still very much shaped by its past.
But from the beginning: Today we got up early, tidied up a bit in the camper and got ready for the city. We took one of the scooters standing around again and drove straight to Alexanderplatz. That's where our hop-on hop-off bus tour started. We saw all these sights:
- Alexanderplatz with TV tower
- the red town hall
- the Berlin Cathedral
- the Brandenburg Gate, the Reichstag building and the Holocaust Memorial
- main station
- Bellevue Palace
- Victory Column
and much more.
We drove past soooo many embassies, they are all practically next to each other here. The Swiss embassy was a bit secluded and one of the few buildings that survived World War II in this area.
We only got off at the remains of the Berlin Wall. This was very impressive and there were information boards everywhere. From there we walked to "Checkpoint Charlie". An exact replica of one of the first control barrack was built there. Right next to it there are now really cute bars: one was full of sand and outdoors - perfect for a short break.
It was really weird on the bus... The audio guide told us that in the past East Berlin and West Berlin were separated, among other things, by the Spree. Now you can see bridges everywhere and we drove back and forth and back and forth... Unthinkable how difficult this challenge must have been....
After Checkpoint Charlie, we drove back to Alexanderplatz. Our scooter was still there and since we wanted to go back slowly, we tried to start it... Without success... We had no internet reception and tried for at least another 30 minutes until we gave up. Since our camper was very far away, walking was not an option... After a while of back and forth, we decided to take a taxi. On the way back, we drove past another section of the wall. The part with all the graffiti - I could have kicked myself for not discovering this part earlier... Oh well, suddenly the internet came back on in the taxi....... Of course!
After a 30-minute taxi ride and 20 euros less, we finally arrived at our home.
I fell asleep right away :).
Afterwards, following a beautiful sunset, we drove out of Berlin: an hour's drive to a beautiful, small lake. Along the way, we filled and emptied everything that was necessary and bought bread for tomorrow.
We're going to cook something delicious tonight and once again enjoy the view, doing nothing and the togetherness :)).
Whether we will continue tomorrow or decide only the day after tomorrow, we will decide spontaneously. You will find out just like us: tomorrow ;)
See you soon, dear ones!
