The Togian Islands are a maritime national park in the Gulf of Tomini, right on the equator. When planning our vacation, we saw pictures of dreamy paradise beaches and untouched nature on the internet. This made the decision to go to the Togians very easy for us. Unfortunately, getting there is only possible through a very time-consuming journey, but we were aware of that.
We started early in the morning with a propeller plane to Luwuk, where we could only land on the second try due to the weather conditions. Then we took a 5-hour car ride to Ampana with Muhtar, a local. Surprisingly, Muhtar's family also joined us on the trip because his sister's child was celebrating their 2nd birthday with the relatives. When we reached the relatives halfway through the journey, we took a short break and were invited for tea.
In the late afternoon, we finally arrived at the Lawaka Hotel in Ampana. The car ride was slow, but the endless palm forests and the spectacular landscape helped the time pass a little faster.
After spending a night in Ampana, we finally took the speedboat 'Herkules' to the Togians the next morning, which took 2 hours.
More about it in our next post...👋😎
