Today we had a leisurely day in Rotorua and walked along the beautiful beach and harbor promenade in the heat, including the Maori settlement of Ohinemutu. The graves on the local cemetery are above ground because it is not possible to dig due to the geothermal gas formations underground.
It's almost unbelievable how well-maintained everything is in all cities and villages here. There is hardly any litter lying around and everything is perfectly signposted for us tourists.
Upon arrival at the Polynesian Spa, we treated ourselves to a smoothie to recharge.
Then we wanted to visit a friend of a former colleague at the Maori cultural and carving center, but he had the day off today. Too bad, he is the head teacher at the carving school there.
So we looked for a campsite and decided on the one at Blue Lake. Cool location, it looks like we're camping right in the jungle.
Finally, we did the night walk in the Redwoods, a very impressive setting.
Enjoy looking at the pictures.
