Wonderful time in Calgary

Wɔatintim: 29.11.2017

I remembered that no date had been mentioned for a while. Arrival in Calgary was on November 15th and was planned until November 20th. This means you can settle in somewhat comfortably. For me, there was a very, very warm welcome. My roommate and landlord at the same time was named Kyra. She was a little older than me, but we were totally on the same wavelength. In these few days, I dare say I found a great new friend. She herself is also on the verge of embarking on her own big journey, tearing down everything in Calgary. Resigning from her job, selling her apartment and all the furniture, to go to India for at least a year. She is convinced she won't come back. A great adventure of a very special kind.

Anyway, it was bitterly, bitterly cold in Calgary. We had a proud minus 15 degrees there. I don't want to be a whiner but that was a real challenge *shivering*. I did some shopping in the evening and cooked something nice, then I was already ready for bed.

The next day we had to return our rental car at the Calgary airport. When the final bill of our rental agreement was issued, I thought my eyes would pop out of my head. I think we got really ripped off. I can't even tell you the amount, it was just a shock. Well, there was no way around it, we had to pay it one way or another. So, that was the end of the rental car for me...

To process the shock a bit, we drove back into the city and warmed up at Starbucks. Then the question came up, okay what are we going to do after Calgary????? We thought about it for a long time. It was clear to us that it didn't make much sense to drive further towards the inland of Canada. Firstly, it gets even colder and secondly, many recreational activities have already closed due to the current temperatures. So that wasn't an option. We had also been considering the USA for a while. More on that later :-)

Arrival in the evening at Kyra's, we first talked about the day and cooked together. I then helped her with her choice of clothes and gave her packing tips. Friday started very relaxed, with a shared breakfast, tea, and the movie 'The Holiday' of course, a romantic comedy.

A view out of the window showed that :-). In the evening, I finally went to the gym again. I was allowed to use Kyra's card - very nice. Saturday morning I was allowed to accompany Kyra to yoga, where I also got to know her closest friends. As a crowning conclusion, we had coffee and tea in a nearby café. It was a great day. In the evening, we had another fun and movie night with Kyra.

Sunday started again very comfortably.

In the evening, after shopping, we took a few snapshots.

In Calgary, there's a haze over the city and it's smoking pretty much everywhere.

As you can see again..

Christmas spirit is also alive in the business district.

And the little snow hare had to be captured as well.

In summary, I had a great time in Calgary, met great people there. Calgary itself didn't have much to offer in terms of sightseeing. The city seems to be more of a hub for onward travel, and unfortunately, I didn't find much about my horse series either.

Then Kyra kindly agreed to take us to the airport on the morning of November 20th. I was so damn grateful to her.

Hmm.. you're probably wondering where we went then. You'll never guess, but I'll tell you. We went to Los Angeles :-)
