Last days on the bike

Wɔatintim: 12.06.2024

Slowly I realised that my bike trip is coming to an end. On one side I was looking forward to arrive at the destination, on the other side I could keep on cycling for ages. For the last 3 cycle days I have been accompanied by both feelings. When I stood at the stone circle near Keswick I was very sad about the near end. While I cycled up the pass in cold and rain and no view I wanted to be at the end. Because of the weather I stayed an other night in a hotel, an old manor house with a nice view to the lake district and a peacock outside my window. This special experience made me want to travel longer again.

The last part along the seaside was very relaxing. A very calm area, perfect for road cyclists (little bit windy) and you look at Scotland on the other side of the water all the time. In Silloth there was a bicycle festival going on with several events and drinks and live music on stage. I stopped for I little while and enjoyed the entertainment. I noticed that it felt very strange when I told that this was my last day of a 8 week bike trip. When I arrived in Carlisle (end of cycling) I had a beer with some hikers. I was rather sad than happy but also proud that I have managed all the way with no big problems but so many great experiences. I have discovered so many beautiful areas and have met so many nice people.

The next morning I took the train to Edinburgh to prepare for my final part of the journey.
