The thermal springs were really excellent. I already knew part of the way from Hastings to Taupo from my bike ride. I had actually planned to drive to the areas of the North Island that I couldn't reach by bike, but my interest in the springs was aroused, especially since the entrance fee for the visit was covered by the camping fee. And this was almost the same everywhere.
Visiting the hot springs in the evening and early morning before there were any 'regular' guests was particularly nice.
The next morning, I took a short walk to the source of the thermal baths. It is actually quite logical, but somehow surprising to me: water shoots up to about one meter high from a puddle and boils. When it reaches the surface, the water has a temperature of around 99.6 degrees Celsius. This heat can still be felt up to 3 meters away on the hiking trail.
This afternoon, I'm heading towards Auckland. There, I would like to take a look at a bike box so that I can safely store it in the last 4 days.
