We're making a second attempt in Aix-en-Provence. Now it's much easier to find our way around and we know pretty much exactly what we want to see. There's also a market in Aix today (Saturday) and it's really great. A huge selection of fish, meat, vegetables, fruit, cheese from local production. And other gingerbread.
We set off on the Paul Sézanne trail, but give up halfway through. Instead, we pay a visit to the Cathédrale Saint-Sauveur, then head to the Hôtel de Caumont Centre d'Art. In the beautifully restored city palace there is a fine bistro with a wonderfully peaceful garden, some really beautifully decorated furnishings and, in particular, an exhibition of paintings entitled "Bonnard et le Japon". Pierre Bonnard was a late impressionist painter with a penchant for Japanese art. It is truly a discovery and definitely worth a visit.
