From Horsens to Enslev

The rain is gone, the sun is shining through the tall trees, the lake reflects the light... it's a fresh but pleasant morning. I'm drying my clothes a little more and enjoying a cup of coffee by the water. A cyclist passes by and sets up a hammock. Later, he comes over to me and we curiously exchange our travel plans. And once again, I get valuable information for my journey through Denmark. There is an app called 'Shelter' that helps me find accommodation everywhere in the country. That's perfect!

My next destination is Aarhus, which is about 50 km away from here. Since I need to recharge my batteries, I first go to the library in Horsens. Insider tip: they have electricity and free Wi-Fi, and you can stay as long as you like.

At around 2:00 pm, I finally set off for my next destination. I thought I had already tackled some hills in this country, but today will be an even greater challenge. I'm cycling across the Eyer Mountains. Ejer Bavnehøj, at 170.35 m, is the third highest natural elevation in Denmark. I'm already in the Skanderborg area in Jutland. Even though it's only 170 meters of elevation, it's not to be underestimated. In Skanderborg, I decide to use my app to find a suitable place to spend the night. I come across a tempting offer: 'Camping in a private garden with toilet and shower.' It's supposed to be easy to check in, I just need to send an SMS. So I do... but unfortunately I don't get a response. Nevertheless, I still ride the 10 km to Enslev, hoping to find someone there. I ask around in the small village. I stand in front of the mentioned house... it looks a bit unkempt, but that doesn't mean anything. If I can set up my tent in the garden and get a shower, everything is perfect. I can't see anyone, there's no doorbell either. To make sure I'm in the right place, I ask the neighbor across the street. I tell her that I'm from Munich and on my way to Norway. She spontaneously offers me a coffee, and I gratefully accept her invitation. It's going to be a beautiful evening 🙏😇 The family is so lovely, they prepare some food and invite me to stay in their pretty glass pavilion. The father makes a fire in a large fire pit late into the night, and we sit and talk until the early hours. I'm so happy to have the chance to meet this kind family with their three children, the dog Nela, and the cat Mr. Grey 🙏
