... there were three little koalas who set out on June 14th to conquer the land of ice and fire. To Tamara's relief, the two notorious latecomers had booked an extra early train, so we arrived in Frankfurt smoothly. Beads of sweat were already forming on our foreheads during the baggage drop-off, due to Tamara's bricks in her luggage ('just the essentials') and the forgotten lithium battery. Unfortunately, there was no food on the flight, but we had in-flight entertainment without headphones - entertainment like in 1995: talking. We had to reclaim our backpacks from the oversized baggage area at the bazaar. With high spirits, thinking that we can now pick up our car, we set off. Instead of our car rental company, we were greeted by rain and wind. After an hour, still no sign of our car. The other providers felt sorry for us. Here we experienced a South Africa déjà vu (note: Tamara and Yvonne will never book a car together again). Three phone calls and two inquiries at the information desk later, we were wiser. It turned out that our reservation had been changed and finally we arrived at our destination. In the empty waiting area, we stood for a while until our number was called. Unfortunately, our booked car was not available (Oooohhhh). We had to settle for another car, which did not cause us to jump for joy, contrary to the provider's expectation. But then, at the car handover, the surprise came - a mega upgrade!!! Whup whup! We got our first groceries on site and after the initial euphoria over the relatively normal prices, we were hit hard at the checkout.
Finally, we could get started. We went straight to Borganes, where we arrived at 9:30 PM. Our rumbling stomachs led us to the kitchen. At half past twelve (half past two German time), we fell half dead into bed in broad daylight. And so the first day came to an end.
