Day 1 and 2 - Arrival & Santiago de Chile

Wɔatintim: 03.04.2024

Only 131 days after we left the airport in Frankfurt and spent four wonderful weeks in Australia, the ICE spat us out at Frankfurt Airport again. This time the journey was twice as long, but with only half the luggage.

After a four-hour stopover in Bogota and plenty of sleep on the plane, we arrived at our accommodation in Santiago relatively fit at around 8 a.m. Fortunately, this time there were no problems entering or leaving the country.

We walked to the "Sky Costanera", a skyscraper that is the tallest building in South America at 300m. The shopping center at the base of the tower would have been perfect for a long shopping spree, but we decided to take the elevator and go up to the 62nd floor. From there we had a great view of the city and the mountains. Santiago is the largest city in Chile with around 6 million inhabitants and is located in a valley surrounded by the partially snow-covered Andes.

Afterwards we went to the city center to learn more about Santiago and Chile on a free walking tour.

Our guide Carlos gave us a lot of information about the history of the country and the city as well as some tips for our stay over the next two days.

During the tour we met a German couple and a woman from France, with whom we visited a park and from there we also had a wonderful view of the city and the mountain landscape. In the late afternoon it was high time for the first Pisco Sour, which went straight to the head in pleasant temperatures - wonderful.

After dinner in the Lastarria district, we took the metro back to our accommodation before dark, where we were greeted by our “house dog” Rufus and after a shower we went straight to bed.

Hallo ihr zwei. Wow, ist das eine riesige Stadt. Sehr beeindruckend.
