A Night in Whakatane

Wɔatintim: 15.10.2017

Hello dear ones,

Continuing with my short report on Whakatane. We arrived here after our trip to the Rere Rockslides. At first glance, the town looks nice and well located, once again by the sea. To celebrate the day and because we wanted to shower after sliding, we found a hotel room. Don't worry, we didn't suddenly win the lottery, there was a great deal for us at the hotel, so the room was cheaper than a hostel room. When we arrived, we quickly realized why... the hotel is located above two bars and in our room was the smallest and loudest bunk bed ever. But we made the best of it and after washing off the dirt from sliding, we made ourselves hamburgers. After this delicious meal and a failed attempt by me to use the computer, we decided to go to one of the bars and have a drink. We had a good time even though the bar was almost empty and we were the last guests at 10pm. But at least we could sleep in peace. Well, apart from the noise the bed made with every movement...

The next morning (Friday the 13th) we got up early and broke our usual morning routine. Before that, we quickly went to the iSite to get a postcard for me and find out what the weather forecast said, whether there was a chance to do the Tongario Crossing soon. We had come up with this idea the day before, of course while drinking beer, that we need to do it soon while we are still relatively close. The man at the iSite was nice but not really helpful, as he could only look at the same weather forecast as us. But in his area, the Tongario Crossing is not booked as often as in the places closer to it. So we decided to drive to Rotorua first and have a look around there and ask again.

That's honestly all there is to this place. Here we actually just slept, well, and for a change, had a drink :)

I will report on the rest of our day soon. Stay tuned.

Yours, Jessi
