Head to Barrydale

Wɔatintim: 16.11.2019

On Saturday morning, it was time to leave Franschoek and head towards Barrydale. After breakfast, we packed together, loaded the luggage, and checked out of the accommodation. We then visited the weekly market just across the street before setting off towards Barrydale shortly after 10 o'clock.

We drove towards Paarl, passed by the vineyards again, and reflected on yesterday's Wine Tram excursion. Just before Paarl, we turned right towards the mountains and shortly after took the N1 highway which led us to Worcester. On the way there, we drove through the Huguenot Tunnel.

From Worcester, we continued on the R60 towards Robertson / Ashton and then further on the R62 towards Barrydale.

An interesting journey through the mountains/hills with different impressions than on the coast.

In Barrydale, we visited 'Diesel & Crème' (on the main street), a restaurant with interesting interior (knick-knacks), and then drove the last kilometers to the Whitehouse where the landlady Nicola was already waiting for us.

The Whitehouse has only two guest rooms and is located on the outskirts of Barrydale, in a quiet location. In front of our room is the beautifully arranged garden, on the side is the small swimming pool, and there are various small seating areas. Almost like home.

Nicola has reserved a table for us tonight at Mez Karoo Kitchen, one of two restaurants in Barrydale. Since the weather was not so reliable, we drove to Mez Karoo Kitchen. The menu was limited but adequate. Helena opted for a corn soup, and I had a Greek salad and Melanzane al Parmigiano. Everything was very tasty and freshly prepared in the small kitchen.
