58. Tag: Today Greece is showing its best side. The sun is shining and there is a gentle breeze. A short drive takes us from the campsite to Porto Koufo, as the ring road that goes around Sithonia is well built. The small coastal village in the south of the peninsula is located on the largest natural harbor in Greece (although I have heard this elsewhere as well).
At the southern end of the beach in Porto Koufo, our hike to Cape Drepano begins. First, it passes by a lagoon and through olive-dominated cultivated land. Later, the path becomes wilder. In the last meters, you have to squeeze through dense undergrowth as if in a narrow tunnel.
The path was quite nice, but what awaits us at the cape is amazing! From a spot, a kind of natural pulpit high above the sea, you can look in three directions. Straight ahead to the tip of the cape, to the right towards Cape Sithonia, and to the left towards Kouki Beach. Wow, each of the three viewpoints would have been worth the trip alone. We sit up there for a long time, letting our gaze wander, before beginning the return journey.
In the afternoon, we relax on the beach. The water is crystal clear and has a beautiful color. However, the water is colder here again. You can tell that we are further north. But a little swim is always possible. It just looks too tempting!
In the evening, we stroll through the small village and enjoy a beer while taking in the view of the bay.
