23. Tag: After spending a peaceful night in the small coastal village of Nea Peramos, we made our way to the 'Cave of the Seal'.
Unfortunately, we let Google Maps tempt us to take the seemingly shortest route. It was initially very beautiful, always very close to the sea. But at some point, the narrow road turned into a dirt track. The path had apparently been 'cleared' recently, which is why there were masses of cut branches and undergrowth on the left and right. Often so narrow that someone had to get out and clear the way. Occasionally, we also scraped against the branches. Poor Nuggy! Eventually, the terrain became so impassable that we discussed possible ways to turn back. But where to turn? We could only continue at a snail's pace. Sometimes someone walked ahead to warn of the worst obstacles. Eventually, there was a spot where we could let Max (with the smaller vehicle) pass. He then drove ahead as a scout and we waited for what would come. Eventually, we received a success message on our phone: It won't get worse, there is just one nasty incline left to conquer. Until then, we had sweated quite a lot. Apart from a few minor scratches in the film covering, we survived everything just fine!
But our destination, the seal cave, made up for it. The footpath from the parking lot was also quite intense, but the scenery and atmosphere there were breathtaking! Everyone was absolutely thrilled. After that, we took a coastal hike around a small cape, to a charming bathing bay, and all the excitement was forgotten!
