17.02.2023 from Chapman River CP to Harveys Return CP

Wɔatintim: 18.02.2023

We still didn't have enough sheets, so we wrapped ourselves in our cozy communal blanket again. After breakfast, we drive back to the ferry port, not because it's beautiful there, but because it's the only way to get to the main village on the island. And besides, there were many birds at the harbor that we would like to take a closer look at today.

We continue to Kingscote, the main town on the island. Here there are some shops and pelicans that are fed at 5 p.m. to attract tourists. But we don't want to wait that long, so we continue our journey after we have updated our mobile phone status with pictures. In the middle of the island, there is a wildlife park and that is our next destination. Koalas are supposed to be plenty here, although the animals are not very active. And we are very surprised to find not only koalas, but also kangaroos, wallabies, and some other very interesting animals of Australia and unfortunately also the world. We are particularly interested in the snakes and the parrots, parakeets, and lorises. An echidna has cabin fever, it's painful to see him take the same 10 steps over and over again. But overall, the visit here has been well worth it.

Rock Pool Cafe Beach is our next destination. Frank is hoping for a snack with crayfish or oysters, but they only serve full meals and/or well-known fast food, and it's still too early or not in demand. We explore why the place is called Rockpool, squeeze through closely spaced rocks, and are amazed by the rock pool, a bathing spot enclosed by rocks that allows for carefree swimming. Too bad we forgot our swimming trunks. Also, the only hooded plover is running around here, so swimming is not allowed!

We continue driving along the north coast,
