Ayutthaya - Phimai - KHON KAEN - Phitsanulok - Chang Mai
What was planned as a 3.5-hour train ride turned into 4.5 hours. But that wasn't so bad, because we were almost alone in the train and had plenty of space - even to sleep.
Sitting by the open window, watching the Thai air and landscape rush past, you're really glad to be able to take so much time.
The landscape here is very flat, green, and humid. There are many rice fields, but also frequent small ponds. There are many animals to discover everywhere, enjoying the peace and vastness of nature. But there is also a lot of construction going on, with elevated highways here and flooded underpasses there.
Arriving in Khon Kaen, we took a rather cumbersome tuk-tuk ride to the hotel, because the address was not properly given (not easy when you can't communicate and the phone's battery is dead).
The city really doesn't have much to offer, actually nothing at all. It's just a big city without anything worth seeing. But our guide promised us a "lush" neon light city. But in the evening, we didn't find much except regular signs. So we went on a search and asked around. But in the end, we ended up at a shopping mall with neon lights on the outside. 😂 And that was it...a real disappointment!
Well, at least we had a brand new and affordable hotel (18€ per night) with a rooftop pool and a view over the city. We also had some time to work, because there will be some changes coming soon 🤫😉.
So stay tuned!
Next and also last stop before Chang Mai is Phitsanulok.
