Today is the first day of rain and stormy winds during our vacation! But we brave the weather and set off on foot to the Castelo dos Templarios Convento de Cristo. It is also on the UNESCO World Heritage List and rightly so.

The original Templar church dates back to the twelfth century, as does the Templar castle, which served as a bulwark against a Moorish invasion in 1190. There are a number of cloisters and the styles vary from Romanesque to Gothic to Renaissance. It is simply impressive.

Suddenly music starts playing in the Claustro Prinzipal; there is a performance by the local ballet school.

There is also a Claustro Santa Barbara, it is a bit run down - but from here you have a fantastic view of the Manueline window, the Janela do Convento de Cristo!

And of course there are also useful and necessary things to see, such as the huge kitchen, a heating room that heated the cells with warm air and a refectory. After this tour and the subsequent galao, we need a little abstinence from admiring buildings. We decide to head for an idyllic campsite in Alpiarca, which was advertised in the motorhome guide. Unfortunately, it is no longer in operation☹️.

So we drive back a few kilometers. We have been driving along the Tejo for a long time, through fertile land, agriculture, vines, storks and pretty villages. So we finally end up in Golega, the city of horses, at a very well-kept campsite for the unbelievable price of €6.60 per night. Hang out and have dinner at home!
