At 4:45 AM, the alarm went off because we were supposed to be picked up at 5:45 AM for our first excursion. SUPPOSED TO! And what excursion? - Okay, I admit, I probably can’t just lie on the beach🤷🏼♀️😅
Anyway, I turned on my phone, and there was a message from our organizer: our guide for today had an accident, and unfortunately (understandably) the tour is canceled.
The message had already gone out the night before, so we didn't need to get up so early, but I belong to those people who, when they grab their book and retreat to bed, turn off their phone🤷🏼♀️
Well, we were awake now anyway.
I then checked where we might reschedule the canceled tour. There are plenty of providers, but we don’t want a totally overcrowded tourist tour. And if any of you think I'm speaking in riddles, well, I want you to keep reading. So, as long as we don’t know how this will go, I won't reveal too much 😉
Eventually, our eyes fell shut again, and we did what you do on vacation: slept in.
Before breakfast, we made a quick stop at the reception to ask again about my glasses. And they were there😁
I had left them at the slide tower in my excitement.
After breakfast, we briefly visited our TUI representative here on site and asked how to best get away from the hotel.
Note, our hotel is about 14 km outside of Cancun, and unfortunately, apart from white palm beaches and turquoise water, there isn’t much around *sarcasm off*
The location is breathtaking🥰
In any case, the nice TUI representative said:
1. Shuttle bus every 40 minutes, but the buses only hold 10 people. Some bus drivers wait at the stop until the bus is full, or they take twice as many passengers as allowed, which I find quite disgusting in those temperatures with bodies pressed together.
2. Taxi, but you have to haggle for the price every time, or
3. Uber. The safest and most straightforward option here.
Well, now we know. Uber app downloaded, and then off to the beach.
Here, the same as yesterday. Being lazy, cooling off in the turquoise water, visiting lizards, cocktails, and reading.
A quick phone call with the organizer of our mysterious excursion. Unfortunately, they couldn't tell us yet if we could reschedule the tour with them. So, I looked for a few alternatives with other organizers.
Since we, well I would say Jörg, didn't want to just hang out at the beach all day again, we ordered an Uber to Cancun to the Hard Rock Cafe😇
It went without a hitch.
The Hard Rock is located across from Mercado Coral Negro. Here you find many small souvenir shops. Normally, I love browsing through there, but it was just annoying. Not a single store could we enter. At every store, there were at least 2 annoying salespeople who didn’t stop talking🙄 I lose interest when I'm annoyed five meters in front of the store and they don't leave me alone. They really top everything. It wasn’t even this exhausting at the Turkish bazaar. Somewhere I can understand the people; the store has to succeed, and they have to make a living, but I bet if they just let someone be when they say kindly: no thanks or I'm just looking, sales would increase. Well, then no strolling and looking, but straight back to the other side of the street and into the Hard Rock. And here, wow. They have an outdoor terrace, amazing. Beautiful view of a white sandy beach with a few rocks, turquoise water, and huge waves. It doesn't come across in the pictures, but it was really cool. And there we sat, enjoyed the view, and as tradition has it, drank a cocktail or two. And while we were sitting there, a call from Stefan (the excursion organizer). Good news, we can reschedule our excursion. Our guide was able to leave the hospital, and we will do the tour with a small group. But when and what it is, you have to stay tuned😇
Later back with Uber to the hotel. Got a few tips from our driver on where to shop around here, let’s see if and when we implement them 😇
Back at the hotel, had a little snack at the buffet and called it a night.
