Industrial port, marsh, crocodiles
Port Hedland, a somehow very modern city in the middle of nowhere. This city is probably well known in the industrial sector. In Port Hedland, we were finally able to refuel and shop a bit cheaper. You can already tell that the further we drive into the 'nothingness', the more expensive everything becomes... Since we found a nice free campground by the water, we stayed for a few days. Here by the water is marshland and thus the risk of encountering a crocodile is higher.
Locals told us that it is rare to see one here and that we can fish there without worry. Done and done. As soon as Mike threw the fishing rod into the water twice, he suddenly said to me 'get away from the water, quick!' He saw two crocodile eyes flashing out of the water.. So fishing was over faster than we thought and we quickly got out of there, after all, you really don't want to take any risks...
Since it is difficult to swim around Port Hedland as the beaches are very dirty, we spent a nice day in the swimming pool. It is already so hot that you can't stay in the direct sun for long without getting a headache. The temperatures are already rising to 38 degrees and there are almost no clouds. After two days in Port Hedland, we 'moved on' to the next campground by the water, where there is WiFi, which is why we can update the blog =). It's funny, WiFi in the middle of nowhere :-D. At this place, we definitely have shade and we will take a few more days off here =).
On the shore, you can observe free-roaming cows, but they are nowhere near as beautiful as the ones we milked. In a few days, we will continue towards Broome (600 km), maybe we will make a few small stops in between if possible.
