With about 14km, today's route is very short... at the end, I will be 39km away from Santiago.
I started a bit earlier today to secure a bed because 3 Camino de Santiago routes converge in Azura, plus the backpack tourists... it could get crowded.
A funny story from today:
Today, some people tried to race me... I was walking briskly at 5-6km/h and an older couple without backpacks would speed up whenever I was next to them... I continued at my own pace, and a little later they were slower again and I caught up. They would speed up again and couldn't maintain the pace, so on the third time when I was right behind them, I sped up to overtake them... I was able to maintain the pace, while they were far behind me after 2 minutes... The woman must have stopped, he kept going and I could only hear her complaining, but I was too fast... I had been walking at my own pace all along... and they were playing these games... but on the third time, I had enough! One gear higher and goodbye... The best part was when she complained and he kept trying... I still had reserves, or I could have given him a piece of my mind, that this is not a race or competition.
I arrived at the hostel very early and had to wait for 1.5 hours until it opened.
To my surprise, I ran into one of the people who wanted to give us a tent in Comillas today. I also met the Polish girls again, who met some people from the Camino del Norte who switched to the Primitivo route... it's really cool to see these people again...
In the evening, I met a German pilgrim while having dinner. We played "Mensch ärgere dich nicht" (a board game) on the side... of course, I lost completely... and then I learned how to play Bauernskat...
So tomorrow is the penultimate day, either I walk 2 times 20km or once 35km and 5km, I will decide on the way. In any case, I will start early...
Santiago, here I come...
