On the road

Wɔatintim: 12.05.2018

Since Monday, December 7, 2018, I am "on the road" again. My last day in Quesada was calm and relaxed. I woke up at the usual time that I had become accustomed to in the past two weeks, had breakfast, and said goodbye to my Workaway host and the other volunteers as they went off to work. The farewell was brief but very heartfelt.

I packed up my things and cleaned my room. I had some time before heading to the village where I caught my bus to Jaén, so I used the time to read a book on my Kindle. The book is about a German couple who completely changed their lives and decided to become "homeless". They have been traveling for over 20 years. They now have 6 children and are building a house in Costa Rica 🇨🇷 (travel experience). The children have never attended school, as their parents consider the travels to be their education. I highly recommend this book as it shows how much we actually depend on our German system and dare not to think beyond that (Title: Traveling the World with Six Children.....).

After a while, I looked at the clock and it was time to make my way to the bus station. Loaded with my two backpacks, the big one on my back and the small one on my chest, I walked to Quesada. As I left the valley and the olive fields behind, I looked back one last time and reflected on the time.

At 12 o'clock sharp, I boarded the bus and two hours later, I arrived in Jaén. From there, I took a bus to Granada. I arrived in Granada at around 3 pm. I spent two nights in a hostel, which was my third hostel in Granada, and it was very centrally located. On the first evening, I joined a tapas tour through the city, which was offered by volunteers at the hostel. In Granada, it is typical that when you order wine or beer, you also get a tapa included. After each additional drink, you receive another tapa, but always different types. Tapas are small dishes that are usually shared with companions. However, the more people who eat, the larger the portion.

That evening, I met new people from different countries in the hostel. The next day, I spent the afternoon with a Dutch woman and an Irishman. I had already met the Irishman the previous evening on the tour. Together, we visited a free museum about the history of Granada and spent time in the beautiful neighborhood Albacin. Two days later, on Wednesday, it was time to move on again. I headed to Almería, as I had received a Couchsurfing confirmation there. So, my first experience with Couchsurfing was about to happen.

More about that will be in the next article, which I will publish in the next few days 😉
