New Zealand - a fishing paradise

There hasn't been an update on Tim's fishing adventures for a long time. This may be due in part to the success rate. It can easily take 80 or more hours before success is achieved. Lack of local knowledge is a major challenge for any angler, and increasing doubts even drove Tim to sniff out suitable reading materials and articles in the library, in addition to the internet. In addition to the three magnificent rainbow trout in Fjordland, two delicious perch also ended up on the table.

Even during working hours on the vineyard, there were a few days to take a chance. Together with a French backpacker, they diligently cast out, reel in, and brave cold winds and rain until the girls had enough. But besides the awe-inspiring views of nature, they unfortunately came up empty-handed. However, cooking together at the secluded campsite and having the occasional beer contributed to a successful experience nonetheless.

Of course, fishing in the sea also had to be tested. Saltwater fishing is much more popular among the New Zealand population. The sea is quickly accessible from anywhere, and the yields are often significantly higher. However, it is quite difficult with "freshwater" equipment. It is too fine and light to withstand the harsh conditions of the sea. As expected, there was no success, but climbing on the rocky cliffs and constantly wondering whether the next wave would reach them or not was a great experience and a lot of fun.

On the North Island, they constantly kept an eye out for good waters, and this was anything but rare. On the way north, they were able to get an impressive view of a crystal-clear river from a highway bridge. The high rock walls indicated that this river had been seeking its way through this terrain for ages. Just a few kilometers from the main road, they found a fishing paradise. An old bridge, magnificent riverbeds, high rock walls, and nothing but the sound of ice-cold clear water. Tim spent two hours standing in the water barefoot, sometimes up to his waist. Shortly after Caro left the sun towards the car to take a break and remind Tim to drive on, finally! For Tim, it was certainly an absolutely unforgettable experience, the kind of perfect day that nature-loving anglers dream of!
