Pakse and surrounding area

After a short stop in Vientiane, we once again took an overnight sleeping bus to Pakse. The bus was much more comfortable than the last one and the ride was pleasant - until the driver decided to take a nap (while driving) around 4:00 am. We ended up on the left side of the road (they drive on the right side here, like in Switzerland) in the ditch. Luckily, the ditch wasn't too deep and the bus didn't tip over. However, it was quite a rough ride and the shock was initially deep. Since the situation seemed hopeless and the bus was stuck, we asked the driver of a passing bus to give us a ride for the last 3 hours, which worked out. The accident bus is probably still in the ditch... Lucky escape!

When we arrived in Pakse, it was pouring rain for the first time ever and we spent some time in the hotel. In the afternoon, the storm calmed down (it's rainy season after all, everything's alright) and we rented a scooter. With that, we drove to the ruins of Vat Phou - about an hour south. It's supposedly the beginning of the old road to Angkor Wat in Cambodia and a taste of what awaits us down there. It was quite nice :)

On the second day in Pakse, we went on another scooter tour - this time an hour east to the Bolaven Plateau. There, we searched for and found Tad Fane and Tad Gneuang waterfalls. Especially the latter was a great but very wet experience due to the amount of water and wind, even though we stood a few meters away from the actual waterfall.

Well, tomorrow we'll continue to Don Det in the 4000 Islands region. See you soon - take care and HOPP SCHWIIZ !!! #getexcited #doubleeaglegate
