Vanuatu, the Pacific state, consists of 83 islands. The capital and economic center is the port city of Port Vila on the island of Efate. And that's where we found a place to sleep for a short stay. We rented a car for a day and drove the approximately 130-kilometer-long Ring Road that goes around the island. Our first stop was the big market in Port Vila. Lots of fresh fruit and vegetables, fragrant herbs, and blooming flowers. We stocked up on a few fresh ingredients for dinner and then went to the crafts market, where the island's women offer their skills in carvings, t-shirts, and baskets. Our drive took us further to Hideaway Island, a small island with the only underwater post office in the world, but also delicious ice-cold drinks. On the way around the island, we drove through small villages where the residents waved curiously, and the dogs, pigs, cows, goats, and chickens slowly moved off the road as our car approached. We also passed through green landscapes and white beaches.
