Today was the day of beautiful views. The plan was actually to find a camping site early and plan from there, but instead we did 3 hikes to amazingly beautiful viewpoints.
Before we even started driving, we saw that the enchanted island, which was still surrounded by the sea last night, is now accessible at low tide by a long concrete pier.
On this small island, there used to be a monastery and a fortress. Church and military always knew how to claim beautiful places for themselves.
During our drive, while looking for a place for a late breakfast, we found a lighthouse with information boards that informed us that in January and February you can spot all kinds of whale species, even orcas, from here. We obviously came a week too late, didn't spot any even with binoculars.
A few kilometers further, a signpost led us to the third highlight of the day, San Juan de Gaztelugatxe, a chapel on a promontory that required a lot of stamina to reach. The monks knew centuries ago which path was worth it.
Only around 7 pm did we finally reach the Sopelana campsite and could finally enjoy a hot shower again.
