Day 2 Burkhards - Herbstein. Softly the snow falls.

Wɔatintim: 06.03.2023

This morning I was a bit shocked when I looked out the window. There was actually some snow, lightly dusted. Checked the weather forecast online, it's supposed to be bad all week... Oh well, I thought to myself. Just start running and see what happens. Bundled up, I left Burkhards. Of course, it started going uphill at first. I walked slow, didn't want to sweat in this weather. Didn't work out too well. But I have to say, as long as I was moving, I didn't feel cold all day. It was wonderful to run through the snow-covered forest. Snowflakes were gently falling in this wonderfully quiet forest. Like a fairytale.

There was only one strange situation. I saw some people from a distance. As I got closer, I saw that they were digging in the ground with shovels. There was a bag beside them. They were traveling in a VW bus with Slovakian license plates. I wonder what they were doing? I greeted them briefly and continued on my way. Who knows? I read several information signs today while cycling. You come across them often. It's interesting that our Vogelsberg region has a volcanic origin. I could only take short breaks due to the cold. I even found a shelter where I quickly drank my warm tea. Good thing I brought my thermos and tea bags. There was no more snow starting from Ilbeshausen. And the sun even showed itself for a few minutes. When I arrived in Herbstein, I bought pasta and salad at Edeka. I cooked for myself today. The accommodation surprised me in a positive way. It's a house from the fifties, converted into a very aesthetic guesthouse. There are still 2 tiny houses in the garden. I'm sitting by the window now, looking at the full moon. What more could you ask for? And it's only a few kilometers away from home.
