Today we drove 279 km into the mountains, a popular ski area in winter. Here we have a beautiful mountain lake where we will spend 2 days at a campsite. Lake Tekapo is fed by the glacier and owes its intense turquoise color to minerals and rock dust deposited by icy rivers. The colors are amazing.

A 3 1/2 hour round hike over Mount John rewarded us with a breathtaking view of the entire Lake Tekapo, nestled in the glaciers.
