Flight was exhausting but totally o.k. Super friendly service, very good food selection, no delays. Just a bit long.
Travel tip: Cherry tomatoes in plastic box and books in the same backpack do not go well together.
Upon arrival in Auckland, our luggage was immediately there. First excitement - which quickly faded when trying to carry these monster bags. Taxi driver dropped us off at the wrong address, cost an additional taxi. Apartment is beautifully located. Time confused, we slept off our jetlag. First evening, traditional dinner at the Italian restaurant - Rigatoni. No energy for the unknown.
First day = cultural day! We take the recommended stroll through the center, thanks to Google Maps orientation worked, even though the sun was in the north and I constantly wanted to walk in the opposite direction. Walked through Albert Park with crazy old trees to the art gallery and museum. Museum was very cool with incredible Maori handicraft. In the evening, had delicious Vietnamese-style New Zealand fish.
Second day: We pick up the camper. Older model that couldn't keep the right side mirror in position at higher speeds. After 30 kilometers, we go back to square one, exchange the car. Get the equally aged younger brother. Everything fine except the fridge, which we only realized in the evening after arriving in Coromandel. Since then, extensive communication with various employees of the rental company; end not in sight yet.
Since almost all drivers drive on the left side, we have joined the majority. Narrow, winding coastal road but no sea because of low tide, not mentioned in the travel guide. Mountain road compensated with beautiful views. Upon arrival in Coromandel, first had delicious Indian food. Then got the last spot in the first row at the campsite.
To be continued.
