Chapter 4.
As previously announced, we went to Downtown Chicago today. We started with a snack at 'The Billy Goat -Cheezeburger is the best!', a quaint diner with tradition on Lower Michigan Ave.
After being strengthened, we went on a shopping tour, which was very successful for Luis. The rest of the family is saving their ammunition for the shopping outlet at the airport.
From Michigan Ave., we continued towards Millennium Park and the Cloud Gate, also known as 'the Bean'. This permanent art installation has quickly become one of Chicago's most popular attractions.
From here, we went a short distance to Navy Pier and took a look at Lake Michigan. Our further walk led us on the 'River Walk' past some train bridges, for which Chicago is quite famous for their construction and number. There are no other city in the world with more train bridges. At the Wrigley Building, the city's first skyscraper and former headquarters of the chewing gum empire, we left the River Walk and briefly dealt with the city's history. On September 8, 1871, a great fire broke out in Chicago, which devastated large parts of the city until September 10. The reconstruction cost an incredible 5.4 billion USD in today's terms.
In the evening, Juliana and Joe's party was on the program. It was a very entertaining evening with many nice guests. We had fun, lots of great conversations, culinary Italian highlights, and high-class wine. Joe shared some treasures from his well-stocked wine cellar with his guests. The great atmosphere was unique, thank you to our friends and hosts for the unforgettable evening!
Today, for the mentioned reasons, it will be a little more relaxed, before our 'Last Dance' in Chicago on Monday.
