Tjumen likes to be compared to Dubai in Siberia. According to the Russian folklore, people here swim in oil and money.
Tjumen is the oil and gas center of Russia, all well-known oil companies, such as Gazprom, are located here. With the available financial resources, evidently, more could be invested in infrastructure. The roads are in better condition, there are significantly fewer run-down prefab buildings, but instead some high-rise settlements that remind a bit of China.
It took 10 hours to get here, again over 600 km. The roads were mostly very good, but it is still a long stretch, especially since the bus drivers always have to comply with their driving times.
The passing landscape is called the granary of Siberia. The soil is very fertile and despite the short vegetation period, abundant harvests (wheat, but also corn) can be obtained here. The corn never manages to ripen in the short time and is only used as fodder for the huge herds of cattle.
The Hilton is hosting us today.
The time was moved forward again, so that we only have a 3-hour difference to Germany now.
