Amsterdam is the Venice of the North and has just as much charm as its Italian counterpart. To save you from wandering around Amsterdam too much, we have summarized our tips for you:
1.) Canal Cruise
Get an overview first! We first took a canal cruise and even though we weren't very excited about it beforehand, it was definitely worth it! We got our combined tickets from 'get your guide' and took a look behind the scenes of the Heineken Experience.
2. Hortus Botanicus
This is one of our insider tips! The Hortus Botanicus is an incredibly old but extremely modern botanical garden right in the heart of Amsterdam. You can walk through the treetops of tropical trees and experience several different climate zones, there is also a small palm house and an incredibly romantic café in the courtyard. Definitely worth a visit!
3.) Cannibale Royale du Nord
As the name suggests, the Cannibale du Nord is located on the north side of Amsterdam and can be easily reached by various ferries - which are free, by the way! You can find the timetables here.
This restaurant not only has a lot of charm but also extremely good food at very low prices and is only a few minutes' walk from the famous artists' district.
4.) Icebar Amsterdam
Our absolute highlight was the XtraCold Icebar. It is not directly in the center and is therefore easy to overlook. And even we hesitated at first... but luckily we went there. For the entrance fee, you not only get three free drinks but also a unique show and photos, as well as a small gift when you leave. We also got one or two shots on the house at more or less cozy minus 10 degrees. But more importantly: a unique experience that you can only have here!
5.) Amsterdam at Night
As soon as twilight sets in, not only do the lights in the restaurants and bars come on, but the little bridges and houseboats also start to glow. The strings of lights stretch all over Amsterdam and give every evening stroll or after-sightseeing beer by the canal a romantic and homely touch. So no matter how tiring the day has been and what you have already seen, dive in and see how a wild cityscape turns into a romantic spot.
