During the night we drive to the western end of Tierra del Fuego, to the Ballenero Channel. Since we reach the Pacific at night, there is a warning of slightly more waves at night and all objects in the cabin should be placed on the floor.
We wake up briefly from the rocking at night, but it's not as bad as predicted.
After breakfast, there is a presentation about Tierra del Fuego and then we are invited to visit the bridge.
(Helmsman and Captain)
Here, too, a guide explains all the processes to us.
After lunch, we get ready for the landing at the Pia Glacier.
Even from a distance, the Pia Glacier is a magnificent sight. We have fantastic weather again today.
The glacier is one of the most active ice streams in Patagonia.
The name of this ice mass honors Princess Maria Pia de Saboya (1847-1911), daughter of the then King of Italy.
We go for a hike to an observation point and hear the glacier calving in between. Unfortunately, we don't see it.
Our guide Sebastian provides us with a lot of information about the glacier. Each guide has a favorite area here, glaciers, plants or animals. And each one enthusiastically conveys their knowledge.
After hot chocolate with whisky, we return to the ship.
Since the glacier has calved in the meantime, we are cautiously driven through the ice fields with the Zodiacs.
There is, for example, the Spanish, German, French, and Italian Glacier. As we pass the German Glacier, the crew serves beer and sausages with sauerkraut.
At the French Glacier, there is cheese and champagne
and at the Italian Glacier, pizza and red wine.
We enjoy another beautiful sunset.
We are already full and slightly drunk before dinner, which is also very delicious.
Good night💤💤
