2-3 hours stay in a city are normally not worth mentioning, but this activity in Gorontalo was something special and even worth its own entry in the travel diary.
We had the unique opportunity to see whale sharks. We were transferred from the port to the starting point in a TukTuk and didn't know what to expect, but we knew that the activity would not last longer than 2 hours.
Arriving there, we put on our swimwear and expected a boat trip to the open sea. However, since the coast drops steeply in Gorontalo, these giants of the ocean could only be seen 100-200m off the coast. With great respect, we ventured into the water and the first look beneath the water's surface will remain unforgettable - we saw 2 huge whale sharks, 1 with about 6m and 1 with about 8m in length. These fish can grow up to 14m long and feed on plankton, so they are not dangerous to humans.
What an unforgettable experience! Even writing this entry a few days later gives me goosebumps...🙈😁
Afterwards, we continued our journey with flights from Gorontalo (Sulawesi) to Makassar (Sulawesi) and Yogyakarta (Java) and arrived in the evening at our accommodation 'Nextdoor Homestay' in Yogyakarta.
Our friends Melli&Thomas were already waiting for us there, with whom we will continue our journey on Java and Bali from now on.😎😁
