12 days lots, lots of wind, sun, temperatures during the day around 20 degrees, in the evenings we were glad to have our down jackets, no rain.
We cycled here 624 kilometers and 4373 meters of altitude.
The ferry crossing from Corsica to Sardinia is exciting. After all the ferries were canceled the previous day and in the morning due to the storm, we are allowed to take the first ferry as cyclists. The crossing is not bad, contrary to our fears!
We have decided to stay on the west coast of Sardinia. Therefore, we ride from St. Teresa di Gallura to Castelsardo, where the pretty colorful houses cling to the fortress on the hillside.
From there we cycle to Alghero via Porto Torres. We stay two nights at the campground near the city and take a trip without luggage to Capo Caccia and Grotta di Nettuno. We go down 654 stairs to the entrance of the cave.
The coastal road from Alghero to Bosa is fabulous, we have great views of the sea and the mountains.
In Bosa, we spend the night in a 300-year-old house in the beautiful old town, the landlord puts the bikes in the hostel kitchen. Typical for the extremely friendly Sardinians!
From Bosa, it goes hilly again until we are back by the sea in Is Aruntas. There we admire the long beach whose sand looks like risotto rice.
South of Oristano, we ride through the inland to Porto Pino. Here we have such amazing tailwind (we rarely have this luck!) that we zoom through the hills at an incredible speed.
Since the ferry to Sicily only goes once a week, we use the time for a rest day and ride through the lagoon landscape with many flamingos and walk on the white beach with great dunes.
On the coastal road at the Costa del Sud, the ups and downs are rewarded with every kilometer. This route is the highlight of Sardinia for us.
We visit Cagliari's old town with the beautiful cathedral during the day and board the ferry to Palermo in the evening.
Goodbye Sardinia!
