Good morning, we arrived in Quito last night. The flight from Paris started with a delay of over 2 hours. Allegedly, the catering was not delivered on time. After boarding, some guests moved seats as the aircraft was not fully booked. Daniela and I had a window seat each, and next to me, the aisle seat was occupied by a family with a child of about 1 ½ years old. This boy made the 12-hour flight a complete nightmare for some passengers, including us. He cried from the beginning. There was a moment of silence and I took advantage of that for a nap, but just as I was about to fall into dreamland, he started again - that dreadful sound. A girl who had sat in front of me went back to her old seat because it was really bad. The parents of the boy were also completely exhausted, they also looked really embarrassed. Well, anyway, totally sleep-deprived, we landed in Quito with a little delay. At 7:20 p.m., we were outside the airport with our driver, who was supposed to take us to our first hotel. It was still a pleasant 20 degrees and the airport looked very nice. There were colorful signs and figures everywhere.
After a 50-minute car ride, we reached our hotel. It's really cute. It has that Ecuadorian style and the rooms are also very lovingly furnished. Exhausted, we went to bed and in the middle of the night, I suddenly woke up because the bed was moving. I woke Daniela up and asked her if she could feel the shaking too. I have to laugh now because her comment was: 'Oh Anke, quickly drink something so you don't get altitude sickness'🤔! Well, I was thinking more of a little EARTHQUAKE!!!! And that's exactly what it was. The main earthquake was in Peru and it could be felt as far as Venezuela. Our hotelier actually wanted to activate the siren, but it was already over. This morning, we were given instructions on how to behave. Hmm, now that we know what happened and what it looks like in Peru, it's a strange feeling.
We had a fantastic breakfast, the owner took great care of us. We will now calmly set off and explore some sights in Quito. But everything very slooooowly. We shouldn't underestimate altitude sickness. But you can also feel that the air here is much much thinner. So my dear ones, we're fine :-) and we send lots of love from Quito!
