This morning we leave Svolvaer for Narvik, where we spend our last night in the hotel near the airport. It snowed last night, so we experience a beautiful snowy landscape on our way back. We make a detour to Diggermulen, where we meet a ptarmigan, what a surprise.

The ptarmigan (Lagopus) is a genus of birds in the family Phasianidae, which belongs to the order Galliformes. The genus is generally made up of three species that are found circumpolarly. The Scottish red grouse, which only occurs in the British Isles, is no longer considered a separate species, but a subspecies of the red grouse. Ptarmigan is one of the most widespread genera within the subfamily Tetraoninae. The most widespread are the red grouse and the rock ptarmigan, which occur in both North America and Eurasia. The white-tailed ptarmigan, on the other hand, is only found in Alaska, British Columbia and the Rocky Mountains.

Shortly before Narvik we encounter reindeer.
