In the morning we reach Ørnes and then we cross the Arctic Circle to Nesna, Sandnessjøen, Brønnøsund where we have a longer stay. As we leave Sandnessjøen we see the Seven Sisters in brilliant winter weather.
In detail, the Seven Sisters consist of the following mountains (north to south):
Botnkrona (1072 m)
Grytfoten (1019 m)
Skjæringen (1037 m)
Tvillingene – engl.: Twins (980 m and 945 m)
Kvasstinden (1010 m)
Breitinden (910 m)
All peaks can be conquered without mountaineering equipment. There are designated parking spaces at the foot of the mountains with appropriate signage for the paths to the summit. The hike over all seven peaks is 26.1 kilometers long and has a total ascent of 3525 meters. Races over all seven peaks are held from time to time. The existing record from 2015 is 3 hours and 43 minutes.
Brønnøysund is located in the coastal plain of the Norwegian west coast in the municipality of Brønnøy. It is located on the Sømnahalvøya peninsula, into which the Torgfjorden cuts from the southwest. Brønnøysund is located on a narrow piece of land on the northwestern shore of the fjord and is largely surrounded by the sea. To the west of the city lies the Brønnøysundet strait, over which a bridge leads to the islands of Hestøya, Kvaløya and Torget. In the middle of the city lies Lake Frøkenosen. In the city center, a sign indicates the city's location as the center of Norway. The distance to the North Cape and the Lindesnes lighthouse (considered the southernmost point of the country) is both 840 km.
Near the city, on the island of Torget, lies Torghatten, a mountain with a hole 35 metres high and around 160 metres long - a straight cave open at both ends. According to legend, this hole was made by an arrow from the impetuous Prince Hestmann.
