Mexico - Sombrero, Quesadilla and Tequila

已發表: 02.06.2021

To solve the riddle of the last post:

We have been in Mexico for a few weeks - the land of sombreros (huge hats), quesadillas, etc. (delicious food), and tequila (favorite liquor).

From Costa Rica (San Jose), we flew directly to Cancun and the next day we drove with the rental car to Tulum. This place is located on the Caribbean coast of the Yucatan Peninsula and is known for its Mayan ruins (which were unfortunately closed due to Covid) and the Tulum National Park with mangroves and cenotes.

Cenotes are freshwater-filled, collapsed limestone caves that can be found almost everywhere there and would play a major role during our stay.

There are several cenotes around Tulum - each of them unique. For example, we visited a cenote that was so deep that you could even jump from an 8-10m high tower. Another one was accessible through 3 holes in the ground, through which you could dive or jump into the water. A third one was completely dark, so it could only be visited with a guide and a flashlight.

In addition, near Tulum, we visited the first Mayan ruins of our trip (Coba) and stayed in a super beautiful hostel that was so big that you could spend days just chatting with people from all over the world.

Here we met a group (from England, Spain, Brazil, and Costa Rica) with whom we joined for a trip to Bacalar, the Lagoon of Seven Colors, after our stay in Tulum.
