Koh Phi Phi (PiPi): 21st-24th April

已發表: 28.04.2019

We were picked up from the pier by a luggage service (simply a cart) at half past 3. Since Koh Phi Phi does not have proper roads, motorized transportation is not used there.

At the entrance, we had to pay 50 cents entry fee for the island, which is supposedly used for cleanliness (you can't tell). The island is not very big, but popular because the 'Maya Bay' is right next to it, where the movie 'The Beach' was filmed. After about 15 minutes, we reached Cocos Guesthouse, which is located in the 'quiet zone' in Tonsai Village (densely populated narrow peninsula). The room was on the second floor (adventurous wooden stairs) and sparsely furnished. Especially the shower, which was just a shower head in the middle of the bathroom, showed that we saved money this time.

Super hungry, we chose the nearest Indian restaurant for afternoon lunch, where I had my favorite dish 'Korma'.

Afterwards, we went to the main beach, where there is a party in the evenings. The tide is very noticeable here, so you can walk quite far into the sea. Small crabs and shellfish (which look like transparent snails!) crawl between the prills.

Just before the grand finale of the sunset, I managed to rush to the toilet of a luxury resort...'shitty' food...

After my stomach had recovered, we went for a walk and watched series in bed.
Exhausted, we overslept until shortly before 11 the next day and went for a relaxed breakfast (delicious iced coffee and banana porridge). From there, we went directly to Ao Lo Dalam Beach from the day before. Since it was high tide this time, we could swim well :) we lay under a small tree and met a nice German girl there.

At 5pm we went to the Koh Phi Phi Viewpoint or rather the viewpoints. Unlike the Tiger Cave Temple, the ascent to the first viewpoint was a piece of cake. The first point was very low and was designed as a sweet garden with small photo points.

10 minutes further was point 2 with a great view. Unfortunately, it was very crowded before sunset, so we spent another 15 minutes and another 50 cents (previously 1 euro) to reach point 3. In a kind of tree house, we enjoyed the sunset over the island and the trees with a few people.

As we returned to point 2 to take more photos, a guy proposed to his girlfriend there - truly the most romantic moment up there!!!

After a delicious dinner at our new favorite restaurant 'Garlic 1992' and a coconut ice cream, we went to bed.

The next day, we slept in again and had a relaxed breakfast. At 1:30 pm, we went on our half-day boat tour.

With a completely overcrowded long-tail boat, we set off to the most beautiful spots in the area. We had a conversation with a nice German-Indian couple throughout the entire trip. The first stop was the 'Monkey Beach', which is not a beach at high tide, but only offers shallow water. I relaxed and watched the monkeys living there from the bow of the boat, as well as the photographing tourists, who were just as funny to watch (I hate crowds like that...).

My highlight was Lo Samah Bay, where I saw various animals: in addition to the beautiful fish from the last snorkeling tour, I saw other beautiful fish species, a puffed up pufferfish, a sea snake(?), anemones, Dory fish, a giant oyster, and to top it off, 3(!) small blacktip reef sharks!!!!!!! There was also a huge sea eagle circling above us! We also visited Maya Bay, which was very unspectacular because the beach was closed (it needs to recover from overcrowding) and we only took a quick photo...

We watched the slightly cloudy sunset and then sat on the front of the boat on the way back to the port. When everyone had disembarked, the boatman suddenly said 'those who want to swim with plankton can stay here'. But only one couple and us stayed... so the four of us set off. Lisa and I lay on the bow of the boat and could see the stars (once again one of the romantic moments :D). At a certain point, somewhat fearfully, we jumped into the dark sea with our diving masks. What we saw was amazing: although only weakly charged by the weak sun of the day, the small organisms (plankton) sparkled with every movement we made. It looked like glittering dust!!! Enchanted, we returned to the island afterwards. Then we had dinner with two German girls, with whom we climbed the 2160 steps in Krabi, at Garlic Fish :)

In the morning of the 24th April, we went for breakfast with our backpacks (delicious Thai crepe with banana next to a cute U11 football team of the local club) and walked from there to the pier. The crossing to our next and final destination, Koh Lanta, went smoothly on a small, somewhat rickety ferry.
