Wake-up call was at 03.30 today, pack everything and hurry up, because departure was punctual at 04.30 from our clubhouse. Matze drove us to the departure location at Bodensee near Rheinspitz with his Pinzgauer. Erhard Schnetzer had agreed to guard our Isidor / the Zwoardler by the lake.
At Rheinspitz, we grabbed our Isidor and left punctually at 05.00 for our first stage to Buchs Werdenberg.
We hadn't been on the road for long when the Fussach Funkenbande surprised us with a box of Jägermeister, the best wishes for our hike, and what pleased us most, a check for EUR 800.00 for our donation page for the Schmetterlingskinder. Many thanks at this point.
At the Funkenplatz in Gaissau, the next surprise awaited us. Some fans greeted us at the Funkenplatz with freshly baked Gipfele and a lot of applause, which greatly motivated us.
We made good progress, covering kilometer after kilometer, the temperatures were perfect for hiking and so we made good progress. We took shorter breaks from time to time to strengthen ourselves. Then a surprise at the green border in Höchst. Didi had painted greetings and all our names on the road in large letters.
Then we made our first kilometers in Switzerland. Everything went very well and everyone was in a good mood. We stopped from time to time to adjust our socks, take care of the first blisters, and replenish fluids. It was getting warmer with every hour.
Arriving in Kriessern, we took a coffee break at a gas station before continuing to march quickly. After about 30 kilometers, some discomforts became noticeable. Burning soles, blisters, and tired joints. We had to push through.
In Lienz, we took a slightly longer lunch break where we ate lunch and refueled our tanks. We moved forward kilometer after kilometer and soon we could already see Schloss Werdenberg near Buchs in the distance, where we were supposed to set up our camp at the campsite.
The last kilometers were tough and we weren't running as smoothly as at the beginning. But we made it and so we arrived in Werdenberg in the middle of the afternoon after 53 kilometers and 9.5 hours of marching time. Roland Eder was already waiting for us there, he had already prepared everything at the campsite. Some friends and relatives from Gaissau visited us at the campsite, which made us very happy. Erhard, Wolfgang, Adwin, Maef, Tanja, Willi with family surprised us.
After the initial care of our injuries and a nice shower, we had the best Zackzack from Eder Roland's grill.
The first day was done, everything worked out and there were no major injuries. Now a beer or two and then off to bed. Tomorrow is the second day, which will take us from Buchs to Chur for about 45 kilometers. A new day! The mood is perfect. Funker Brrr....
